DESCRIPTION OF THE PROGRAM
The Northwest Academy is a program designed to meet the needs of a diverse population of students with emotional, behavioral and academic disorders. The Northwest Academy is available to qualifying students from the eleven member school districts within the Northwest Special Education Cooperative.
The Northwest Academy currently has four classrooms designed to teach students at a variety of education and ability levels. Each classroom is comprised of a highly qualified teacher and trained paraprofessional(s). The staff to student ratio is kept low in order to help students maintain a high success rate, not only with their academics but also with their behavior. Staff members are available to instruct students at their academic ability levels and support them with their individual behavioral needs.
The Northwest Academy offers similar academic and elective programs as the students’ home schools such as government, art, computers, physical education, consumer education, and life skills. If determined eligible, students have the opportunity to participate in driver's education class, and STEP (a school to work program for students with special needs). Students at Northwest Academy also have access to counseling in both an individual and group format. The staff and administration at the Northwest Academy work closely with students, their families, and school districts to transition students back to their home school and complete requirements needed to graduate from high school.
